Asakusa Ukonya is a dance entertainment group that connects Asakusa with the world through the circle of dance.
The group is led by Ukon Kofuji, the second generation of the Kofuji school of dance, and has performed at historical sites such as the 400th anniversary of Kodaiji Temple in Kyoto and the 1200th anniversary of Kukai at Zenzuji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, as well as at the Japan Expo in Paris, the Tokyo 150th anniversary at Hamarikyu Gardens, Summer Sonic, and other rock festivals including Fuji Rock, They have performed at rock festivals such as Fuji Rock, and performed on stage with Kacey Musgraves, the winner of four Grammy Awards in 2019, to introduce Japanese culture to the world. Based in Asakusa, the company also entertains international travelers with private shows for overseas VIPs and activities such as samurai and oiran (courtesan) experiences.
