AIZAN OKUDA

 

"Born in Kyoto, Japan.

Studied the Miyoshi Kanzan on the Miyama-style shakuhachi from the age of 8.

At the age of 12, he took the Miyama-style Shakuhachi Gakkai semi-shihan examination, and at the age of 16, he took the Gakkai shihan examination.

In 2021, he graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts.

He completed his graduate studies at the same university in 2023.

While still a student, he performed the Miyama style piece "Asakaze" on the NHK radio program "Hogaku Hyakuban.

He has performed many shakuhachi ensembles and premiered new pieces based on this piece and sankyoku ensembles.

He has studied under the masters Kanzan Miyoshi, Minezan Nomura (living national treasure), Dozan Fujiwara, and Suzumo Aoki III.

Winner of the Grand Prize in the 37th New Performers Competition [Japanese Traditional Instrumental Division], Ichikawa City Cultural Promotion Foundation.

(Master of the Miyama School Shakuhachi Gakkai (public foundation), member of the Japan Sankyoku Association and Uraha-kai, member of the hogaku ensemble "Miyako Fuin"."
